Fairly Traded

What are Fairly Traded products?

Fairly traded clothing products have been produced ethically. This means that the workers are paid a decent wage and their working conditions are closely monitored to ensure they are fairly treated. Organisations such as the Ethical Trading Initiative in the UK promote ethical working practices for workers worldwide. There are numerous organisations working towards this and most local governments already have legislation in place for this. However, enforcing it is another matter. It is technically difficult to adapt the Fairtrade Certification model of standardized minimum pricing to crafts and other products made by small-scale artisans. These are unique, made of varied materials and have highly varied production processes and costs. However FLO is currently working with the International Fair Trade Association to see whether they could create a certification for these products in the future.

Sancho’s Dress

Our sustainable shop is based in Exeter Devon, unlike shops that you may find on the high street we source clothing that is certified fair trade and is constructed from sustainable natural materials. In our shop we stock a carefully curated range of clothing, accessories and gifts from organic and fair trade producers. Online you can see the certification on each product page.

This season the shop houses a range of organic dresses, shirts jeans and accessories as well as contemporary jewellery and both wool and vegan friendly knitwear. When selecting items for the shop we are driven by sourcing high quality garments as well as unique designs with stories that make excellent gifts.

We, Kalkidan and Vidmantas, founded the store in 2014. Our inspiration grew in travels to developing countries such as Ethiopia where we saw first hand the effects of the fast fashion industry; low wages, mass dumping, social disruption and environmental destruction. Despite the disappointing nature of of the fast fashion industry we are realists and we know that the only way to provide the opportunity for sustainable development to millions of people around the world is through jobs. That is why we committed ourselves to bringing ethical brands, as well as starting out own brand Scarves For Sustainability, to provide more options for conscious customers looking to make a positive change.

YOJO

YOJO is an indipendent design studio, hence, contemporary fashion label conceived in London and sustainably handmade in Italy.

Through founder and designer Joe Sorrentino’s interest in art, designs, photography and cultural diversity, YOJO employs an unconventional and multidisciplinary approach to create elegant and iconic fashion accessories for men and women.

The YOJO hallmark is defined by the experimental use of ceramics - a completely eco-friendly material that for millennia has drawn the attention of designers and creatives alike across a wide variety of industries, but fashion.

With a strong commitment towards sustainable materials and collaborations with independent Italian artisans, YOJO is a label created for the next ethically aware generation.

The concept behind the OXYMORON collection was to re-design classic accessories with a contemporary twist… elaborated at the essence, but minimalist at glance. To accomplish such a design challange, the brand combined the clean minimalist look of ceramics with the elegant classy drapes of silk and created a line of man and woman accessories preserving the past whilst pushing forward. With the OXYMORON collection, the label has also embraced modularity and waste reduction to provide clients with effortless tailor-made accessories allowing freedom of choice, custom aesthetics and piece of mind during one’s evolution towards conscious awareness.
