Fairly Traded

What are Fairly Traded products?

Fairly traded clothing products have been produced ethically. This means that the workers are paid a decent wage and their working conditions are closely monitored to ensure they are fairly treated. Organisations such as the Ethical Trading Initiative in the UK promote ethical working practices for workers worldwide. There are numerous organisations working towards this and most local governments already have legislation in place for this. However, enforcing it is another matter. It is technically difficult to adapt the Fairtrade Certification model of standardized minimum pricing to crafts and other products made by small-scale artisans. These are unique, made of varied materials and have highly varied production processes and costs. However FLO is currently working with the International Fair Trade Association to see whether they could create a certification for these products in the future.

Sancho’s Dress

Our sustainable shop is based in Exeter Devon, unlike shops that you may find on the high street we source clothing that is certified fair trade and is constructed from sustainable natural materials. In our shop we stock a carefully curated range of clothing, accessories and gifts from organic and fair trade producers. Online you can see the certification on each product page.

This season the shop houses a range of organic dresses, shirts jeans and accessories as well as contemporary jewellery and both wool and vegan friendly knitwear. When selecting items for the shop we are driven by sourcing high quality garments as well as unique designs with stories that make excellent gifts.

We, Kalkidan and Vidmantas, founded the store in 2014. Our inspiration grew in travels to developing countries such as Ethiopia where we saw first hand the effects of the fast fashion industry; low wages, mass dumping, social disruption and environmental destruction. Despite the disappointing nature of of the fast fashion industry we are realists and we know that the only way to provide the opportunity for sustainable development to millions of people around the world is through jobs. That is why we committed ourselves to bringing ethical brands, as well as starting out own brand Scarves For Sustainability, to provide more options for conscious customers looking to make a positive change.

laidback london

Handmade beaded leather flip flops and leather sandals.  Handcrafted using traditional techniques, laidback london leather sandals, leather flip flops and leather accessories are all made in Africa and have a positive social impact on the local communities that make the products.

Eco Vegan Shoes

My dream is to bridge the gap between everyday people and ethically produced vegan shoes. Eco Vegan Shoes is about getting the latest fashions out there at fair prices, while not hurting animals or people in the process. No matter who you are or where you’re going in life, we are there for when you want to make a positive choice.

Fortress of Inca

Fortress of Inca was inspired by a pair of boots originally bought in Peru in 2005. These boots encompassed textiles and materials that were native to the region and represented the talent and creativity of the Peruvian people. When Fortress of Inca was launched, it  was important to us to keep production of these beautiful boots and shoes in Peru.

Woolings

Woolings are light and warm shoes inspired by Russian felt boots valenki. They are made from 100% Australian wool covered with a water resistant layer and a non slip rubber sole. Woolings save warmth in winter and protect from the rainy days in autumn and spring; at the same time wool allows your skin to breath and maintain good health of your feet.

TO THE MARKET

TTM showcases handmade goods made exclusively by proud and passionate artisans who have overcome the perils of abuse, conflict, and disease. By assisting local partners around the world in bringing these goods “to the market,” we take an active role in equipping the survivors they employ with economic independence, while raising awareness of the challenges that they face.

Po Zu

Our name is central to the way we go about our business. ‘Po-Zu’ stems from Japanese, meaning to pause, and it is our mission to provide your feet with unique respite from the frantic pace of busy lives and to halt the damage that modern footwear manufacturing often causes to people and planet.

Mamahuhu

Each pair of Mamahuhu shoes is beautifully handcrafted by artisans with Colombian leather. Our designs are inspired by unique elements from different cultures during the founders’ travels around the world.
