Fairtrade

Fairtrade certified clothing is a market based approach that aims to help producers in developing countries obtain better trading conditions. The cotton in products with Fairtrade certification has been grown by farmers who receive a fair deal for their work. In addition to their salary they also receive a premium which goes towards projects within their local community such as building a school or establishing access to water. These factors are at the very heart of the Fairtrade clothes industry.

Everyone in the supply chain, from the certified producer organisations through to the companies licensed for the consumer-ready product, must be registered by one of the FLO Labelling Initiatives or FLO-CERT. All registered companies are subject to independent audits to ensure compliance with Fairtrade standards. At present, the only material that the Fairtrade Foundation certifies is cotton

Hiro and Wolf

// VIBRANT ETHICAL ACCESSORIES FOR HUMAN + HOME + HOUND //

Working between East London and East Africa; Hiro + Wolf gives traditional craft modern appeal by combining a minimalist aesthetic with a love of colour and print.

Accessories designer Amy Fleuriot and craft development expert Bee Friedmann first met in 2011 while walking their dogs in London Fields Park in Hackney, London. They quickly discovered a common love for design, animals, and sustainability, and almost as quickly converted their shared passions into an accessories brand named after their two dogs, Hiro + Wolf. The brand officially launched in the Summer of 2013 with a collection of vibrant, ethically made products for people and their pets.

Amy + Bee regularly travel to Kenya to oversee the jewellery production and make checks on working conditions. The London-based brand produces all its jewellery in collaboration with small-scale artisans and craft groups that would otherwise not have access to international markets. One such group offers people with physical disabilities the opportunity for better livelihoods through training and employment. Working with natural, locally-sourced materials such as bone, wood and horn – as well as brass and aluminium – Amy + Bee are dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of their production methods.

Fabrics for the vibrant collection of pet accessories are hand selected from around the world, many ethically sourced during trips to Kenya. Amy + Bee are proud to manufacture all of their pet accessories in the UK. Designed and sampled in their East London studio under the watchful eyes of the in-house hounds, all leads and collars are then skilfully trimmed with bright neon and luxury vegetable tan leathers and fitted with hardware by hand in an all female enterprise in Staffordshire.

Now an internationally recognised brand, Hiro + Wolf collections are sold in stores worldwide and www.hiroandwolf.com. Hiro + Wolf have achieved significant media attention with features in national publications including Elle Decoration, Living etc. and Timeout. Now in their most recent venture the pair have collaborated with From a Confined[ ]Space and From Afar Crafts to curate a unique shopping destination for sustainable style and great ethical design at 'One Four Six' in East London’s Columbia Road.

Hiro + Wolf continue to work hard to develop their collections. Observing their commitments to sustainability and quality design to bring their customers truly exquisite lines for people and their pets.
